July 03, 2009: MRC starts consultative process of implementaion of the Coral Reef Monitoring component of the WB/MEMP. The visiting consultant Dr. Alec Dawson Shepherd gave a talk on Thursday on the 'point' of the coral reef monitroing which highlighted the concepts, principles and monitoring indicators and certain pre-conditions that would justify reef monitoring in Maldives.
MRC and PMU staff attended the talk. A series of stakeholder worshops have been planned in the coming weeks of July / August that would help designing the programme relevant to Maldives. MRC has a National Coral Reef Monitoring Programme where only biophysical aspects are monitored and results disseminated to international community.
